Leonard Reid Family House Historic Cultural Center Build-Out

Managed the adaptive reuse and interior build-out of the Leonard Reid Family House, a 1926 historic property listed on the National Register of Historic Places, for its transformation into the Sarasota African American Art Center and History Museum. The project repurposed the historic structure into a community-centered arts, culture, and history destination focused on preserving and sharing Black life and history in Sarasota’s Overtown neighborhood. Work included coordinating improvements that supported public programming, exhibit space, visitor access, and the building’s long-term cultural use while respecting its historic character.

Role Construction Operations Manager / Project Manager

Responsibilities:Led project execution for the approximately $300,000 historic build-out of the Leonard Reid Family House, managing coordination from preconstruction through project completion. Oversaw communication among the owner, architect, consultants, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to align renovation activities with the operational needs of the future arts and history center. Directed scheduling, procurement, field coordination, and quality control while supporting the sensitive adaptive reuse of a National Register historic property into an accessible, community-serving cultural facility.
